Library, Performing Arts + Housing, Paris
A scheme for Quartier St. Margarite, 11th Arrondissement, Paris providing a mediatech that includes a library, gallery, lecture theatres and retail, among other amenities beneath a stepped public landscape and amphitheatre, alongside urban housing and indoor and outdoor performing arts spaces.
An open air theatre plays out a modest human drama. Rue Charles Delescluze is the stage for life’s coincidences, the roofscape the audience and Church of St. Margaret the backdrop.
The pedestrian is the performer on entering the space but may become the audience by taking to the blanket of steps. Looking back where one came from with an alternate perspective to allow for contemplation.
